Selection of Fellows:
- Applications and reference information are reviewed based on the following criteria:
- Currently demonstrates a commitment to community by dedicating time and talents through volunteer opportunities
- Desires to improve the quality of life for all people valuing justice, equity and inclusion
- Able to commit the time to personal and community development as a community leader on behalf of others
- Willing to bridge boundaries and collaborate with others for the betterment of our community
- A resident of Manatee or Sarasota County, at least 18 years old and out of high school
- Select applicants are interviewed by the GLI Members and staff.
- Final selection is made by the GLI Steering Committee.
Selection of Mentors: Applicants will be contacted by a GLI Steering Committee Member or staff and the class of fellows and mentors will be announced in February 2009.
Applications are reviewed based on the following criteria:
- A community leader that demonstrated quality, effective leadership through community experience, employment or appointment in Manatee and/or Sarasota county
- An expressed desire to help others grow and succeed
- Able to commit time and resources to the Grassroots Leadership Initiative
- Recently participated in leading a community effort
- Believes in the vision and mission of GLI to add new voices to community leadership
- Maintains a positive image and high level of integrity.
- Has an engaging and open-minded temperament with very strong listening skills
- Has relationships with and able to make introductions to decision making individuals and organizations in Sarasota or Manatee county
- Acknowledged by the community for devoting leadership, time or expertise
* Final selection of mentors is made by the GLI Steering Committee.
GLI is dedicated to leadership enhancement, with a deliberate focus on community, by strengthening leaderships skills through workshops, mentoring relationships, networking opportunities and a community project.
