The Sarasota County Civic Leauge is offering complimentary memberships to GLI Alumni.
Vision: A community where citizens are actively engaged in the matters of governance, public, private and non-profit partnerships, and one that creates an active civic culture reflective of our diversity.
Mission: Sarasota County Civic League, a non-partisan organization, promotes efficient and effective government and encourages citizen participation by providign opportunities for the community to learn about civic issues; helping the community understand the roles, opportunities and options they have for democratic expression; and promoting the civility code of conduct.
The Sarasota County Civic League:
- Believes it is the the responsibility of every citizen of Sarasota County to stay informed, express opinions on issues, and take an active part in community affairs.
- Invites all members of the community to join.
- Is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the membership. Board meetings are open to all members.
- Conducts interviews with candidates to evaluate the qualifications of the candidates for the offices fo rwhich they are running, and publicizes the results of the evaluations. We do not support, oppose, or endorse candidates.
- Works collaboratively with community groups to increase civic participation.
- Takes positions on certain issues that affect the well-being of our community.
MEMBERSHIP OPPORUTNITIES INCLUDES:
- Engage in civic dialogue.
- Learn about all sides of community issues on a monthly basis.
- Meet and talk with cndidates.
- Interview candidates to determine their qualifications for local and state office.
- Interact with elected officials in an informal atmosphere.
- Attend an annual dinner wtih a well-known speaker.
The $35 membership fee has been specially waived for GLI Alumni.
