This year SCOPE and Sarasota County Government applied for the All America City Award given by the National Civic League. The award designates communities that exemplify the best of American values to bring caring citizens together to make a difference. The rigorous application process cited GLI, Community Health Improvement Partnership and the Coalition for Inclusion & Diversity as projects demonstrating active citizenship. In March of this year, Sarasota became a finalist for the award inviting a delegation to the national conference in Tampa, FL.
A delegation with representative from SCOPE, Sarasota Government and each project prepared for a 10-minute presentation for the judges. GLI reps included Sandra Figueroa, Nicole Martin, Euline Myrick and GLI staff. Our very own Tim Dutton was on stage in the middle of the whole production as the narrator. We competed with 16 other communities from Cerritos, CA to Kissimmee, FL for the designation. We didn’t win the title this time but we won the opportunity to represent our community, share GLI on a national stage and learn from other inspiring communities.
