Well, as I read Chapter 1, I realized that these people took their simple interests and ideas and made something really "big" happen in the eyes of the communities they were impacting. Honestly, I'm on Chapter 2 and need to go back and skim over Chapter 1 again in order to answer the above discussion questions. But I really am touched by the stories so far and really hope that the projects that come from this group this year, the years past, and the years to come will impact the communities of Manatee and Sarasota Counties and bring about some of the changes that we feel in our hearts should be made. Come on guys, Im about to read again so lets get bloggin!!!! Im gonna call yal. More comments to come ;0)

    Greetings, 2008 Fellows -

This is the space where we can discuss the "Getting to Maybe" book. Please add your comments on chapter 1 into the mix on this blog by Monday, August 25th.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about how to use the blog.

I'm really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this book!

Here are some questions to get you started in thinking about the material if you need help:

    - What are some of the differences between simple, complicated and complex problems? How does the table on page 9 change the way you look at your community project?
    - What about Bob Geldof (of Live Aid), Linda Lundstrom (of the Kiishik Fund), the Pritchards in Atlanta or the Brasil HIV/AIDs phenomenon inspires you? What about one of their stories surprises you?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and enthusiasm, Ashlee.

Has anyone gotten through Chapters One and Two yet? Some of the bullet points I found particularly pertinent to GLI include: - Support vision, people with a strong sense of calling, and emergent possibilities - Support intense interactions, networking and information exchange among those who have the potential to tip a system in a new direction - Allow for imperfection in yourself and others...there's a lot of good stuff in there.

Chapters Three & Four deal with the concepts of "standing still" and the "powerful stranger." Both are ideas that I've found helpful in this work with GLI and other community activism. Anyone gotten there yet?

I'm looking forward to hearing about what y'all think!

Definition of a blog: "Websites that take the form of online journals, updated frequently with running commentary on one or many topics."

So in the spirit of launching our GLI Blog, I am going to start blogging regularly here on the GLI website.

Although Ashlee and I have been discussing "Getting to Maybe," anyone can feel free to blog about anything somehow related to GLI.

Got something to share about your community work or grassroots leadership lessons learned? Please share!
